A. Martini & Co. served as the General Contractor for the renovation of Central Catholic High School’s nearly 100-year-old Brothers Residence. The project involved a full interior renovation of all three levels, including new living quarters for the Christian Brothers, updated administrative offices, and accessibility improvements throughout.

The second floor was completely reconfigured to provide new bedroom suites, fully accessible toilet and shower rooms, and a large common area. On the first floor, a new Board Room and Admissions/President’s Office Suite were constructed, while the historic Chapel and Kitchen/Dining Room were carefully renovated to preserve the character of the original design. The basement was reconfigured to create additional administrative office space.

The scope of work also included the installation of new mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems, as well as structural modifications to accommodate an elevator, two ramps, and a chair lift, ensuring full ADA accessibility. Throughout construction, A. Martini & Co. worked closely with the design team to maintain the historic integrity of the building while upgrading it to meet modern standards of comfort, safety, and functionality.

Martini & Co was awarded the General Construction contract for the new 70,000sf/ 5 floors tenant fit-out for the law firm of Dickie, McCamey, & Chilcote relocated in 4 Gateway Center. The project includes a main lobby greeting area with a large conference space designed to be partitioned into smaller conference rooms, with a catering kitchen to service the area for various meetings and gatherings. There are 5 elevator lobbies, executive offices, additional meeting rooms, multiple micro kitchens, numerous offices with custom office fronts, 8 “gang” bathrooms, all designed with an elevated contemporary look by Perkins Eastman.

RareMed

A. Martini & Co was selected to work with CBRE and RareMed Solutions to build out their Pittsburgh headquarters. After completing the original space, we were selected to return to build out the 8,000sq.ft. expansion portion which included open and closed office spaces, training rooms, a break room, new conference room and restrooms. The first floor build out of the office space includes their 10,100sqft. specialty pharmacy – this space required supplemental services, including a separate generator to protect the precision of the climate controls and electrical services for the space. The remainder of the RareMed office includes open and closed offices, state-of-the-art conference rooms, and a kitchen with an eat in the dining area. A. Martini & Co was also hired by CBRE to complete the remainder of the first floor of 200 Industry Drive which included multiple restrooms, corridors, a fitness center, an expanded dining area and kitchen as well as a multistory grand main lobby.

A. Martini & Co was selected to provide Preconstruction and Construction services for the expansion and renovation of Henne Jewelers, a multi-generational Shadyside institution.  A. Martini & Co has enjoyed a long-standing relationship with the Henne family, providing construction services throughout several renovations and expansions over the years.  The recent project, designed by Desmone Architects, included an expansion in the rear of the building, merging a previous restaurant/bar space, as well as a second-floor showroom and sales area. A. Martini & Co worked closely with the Rolex manufacturers design firm on the Rolex display area to meet their brand standards. Challenges were exacerbated by the lack of previous as-built drawings. A. Martini & Co needed to shore up all floors and install new structural steel from the basement to the roof.  A new elevator was installed as well as a monumental stair cut through 3 floors. Restrooms were relocated as well and all new storm and sanitary was needed. The storefront was updated with new windows and a new stone facade and signage.

A. Martini & Co was hired to renovate and merge an existing art gallery space with the adjacent old neighborhood theater space. A. Martini & Co demolished the stage, the theater seating, and leveled the sloped theater floor so that the large space can be used for auction storage and staging. The construction scope included a new photo studio, renovated existing restrooms, and a new passageway between the existing gallery and the old theater space.  Exterior metal panels were installed to provide a contemporary aesthetic.

A. Martini & Co was hired for the complete interior demolition and renovation of the Civil & Environmental Consultants, LLC at Cherrington Office Park. The 120,000 SF office building consisted of four stories for this total renovation. The scope of work included the build out of offices, along with the addition of stand-alone workstations, conference rooms, break rooms, micro kitchens, lobby, corridors, and restrooms.

A. Martini & Co was selected by Big Burrito Restaurant Group to renovate the previous Poros Restaurant (also originally built out by A. Martini & Co) in 2 PPG Place. Preconstruction collaboration with the owners and the 2 design teams as well as the building management team, resulted in A. Martini & Co providing numerous budgets, and constructability reviews to control costs. The project included approximately 10,000sf interior renovation, a redone exterior patio and facade. New kitchen equipment was installed, and existing hoods were reused. A. Martini & Co worked with the tenant, engineers and the landlord to determine the best and most economical solution for the kitchen exhaust issue identified in this space. This is the 6th restaurant that A. Martini & Co has built in the PPG Complex.

A. Martini & Co was selected to be the Construction Manager/General Contractor partner with ArTech for the Independence Health System’s new, ground-up Medical Office building located in Connellsville, PA. This 17,000+ square foot space was built on a prepared site, however due to the history of mining in the area drilling was necessary to form piling for foundations. Our role in the site work included the installation of new storm management system and site utilities. The project scope included a large parking lot, extensive landscaping, and site lighting. The new medical office building was designed to have 4 quadrants:

  • Primary Care,
  • Quick Draw – including mammography, Xray machine, ultrasound
  • Specialist offices and exam rooms
  • Orthopedic Center including a Xray machine

The building includes 23 exam rooms, numerous toilet rooms for staff and patients as well as lobby restrooms. The lobby features a 2-story, windowed entrance and with a large, cantilevered entrance canopy that required foundations of 25feet long, 30inches thick and 8feet wide. A. Martini & Co completed the construction work 2 ½ months ahead of schedule, however due to supply chain issues the pre-purchased switch gear and the roof top air handling units arrived significant later than previously committed … but in the end A. Martini & Co met the expected completion date.

A. Martini & Co was selected as the Construction Manager/General Contractor to participate in the development and budgeting of a Master Plan for the campus to meet the growing needs of the community. The first phase included a new outdoor amphitheater built to accommodate the special needs of children and adults with disabilities and chronic illnesses.

A. Martini & Co. was selected as the General Contractor for the new office space for the Pittsburgh location of Whiteford, Taylor, and Preston Law Firm at 11 Stanwix in downtown Pittsburgh. The 12,000SF project consists of private offices, conference rooms, a lounge, and kitchenette. The A. Martini team utilized Procore to streamline communication with both the out-of-town architect and owner to ensure the project remained on schedule as well as on budget. Subsequent to the completion of the original contract, AMC was hired by the tenant to build out the adjacent space to accommodate return-to-office employees. A. Martini & Co. has completed numerous Law Office projects in Center City Pittsburgh that include both Pittsburgh headquartered firms and out of town headquartered firms, with a local Pittsburgh presence.

  • Tenant Location: The Henry W. Oliver Building

This project is a blending of history with innovation. Hawthorne Group selected a tenant space at the Historic Landmark –  The Henry W. Oliver building designed by Daniel Burnham. This tenant space is located on an occupied floor, noise control was required due to both adjacent tenants and those located on the floors above and below. A. Martini & Co. self-performed the framing and drywall scopes; the property owner carried the HVAC scope and installation. The interior finishes were coordinated with the terra cotta façade of the building. The original maple floors were refinished to appear as they did in 1910. The original building marble was refinished, as well, as a tribute to Burnham’s design. The transom windows were uncovered and replaced with low iron glass, which is the clearest glass available, to maximize the daylighting in the space. Building during the COVID pandemic impacted the project schedule due to the many supply chain issues. AMC creatively came up with alternative means and methods to counter balance the many delays in material delivery. The lighting package and controls were unique – the lighting follows the circadian rhythm starting with warm tones (sunrise) in the morning and gradually changes to a brighter white light (bright afternoon sun) and then goes back to warm (sunset) light in the late afternoon. A. Martini & Co was hired by Hawthorne to build out the adjacent space shortly after completion of the original contract.

Pittsburgh’s own Fred Rogers Productions (FRP) relocated to the Southside Works. The new 11,000sf office environment takes its inspiration from FRP’s multiple hit series and features elements that honor the look and feel of an actual neighborhood. There is also a private terrace for meetings and dining. The light-filled space was designed to strike a perfect balance between practical and whimsy.

A. Martini & Co. was the Construction Management partner for the addition and expansion of Dancing Gnome, a local brewery in Sharpsburg. Our team worked closely with the architect and engineer to reconfigure this space so that Dancing Gnome could install and connect their brewing equipment for onsite brewing. A tasting room was added to the facility with a large seating area, as well as outdoor dining space.

A. Martini & Co. was the Construction Manager/General Contractor for the renovation of the August Wilson House, the playwright’s childhood home. The multimillion-dollar restoration and addition led by the architect – Pfaffmann + Associates in collaboration and direction from the Daisy Wilson Artist Community, transformed the long-neglected property into a destination arts center that serves as a cultural hub in the Hill District neighborhood.

A. Martini & Co. worked with the August Wilson House team for nearly five years on preconstruction activities, keeping the vision and design intent intact; RACP and CITF funding was secured as well as numerous grants from regional foundations. Due to the distressed condition of the home, AMC addressed many unforeseen conditions throughout construction.  Our team worked collaboratively with the design team along with the subcontractors and MWDBE firms for this project, securing 28% MWDBE participation for the project.

Completed, the August Wilson House restored and reimagined August Wilson’s childhood home as an interpretive exhibition space; provide culturally compelling community programs for the Black arts tradition and aesthetics; and has elevated artists and scholars to develop and co-develop works within the Hill District.

The YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh partnered with Action-Housing to renovate its historic branch on Centre Avenue in the Hill District which provides single-room housing for low-income men.

Once a hub for sports, recreation and cultural activities in the Hill District, the branch was the first YMCA in the city established for the Black community. Under the new plan, the YMCA-Action Housing partnership has created a new nonprofit, Centre Avenue Housing Inc., that owns and operates the facility.

The renovation was completed in 2021, with a cost of $7 million. ACTION Housing and the YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh relied on A. Martini’s expertise with RACP and CITF funding in order to obtain these financial supports for the project. Our team had achieved 27% MWDBE participation.

Renovations to the four-story building included updates to the kitchen, sleeping rooms, bathrooms, lounge, meeting rooms and offices, all done while occupied. The gym has also been renovated, it includes a boxing ring which “back in the day” hosted pro and semi-pro matches.
